Decision-making

If the loudest residents and the evidence disagree, which do you follow?

Longer version: L07 · If the loudest residents want one thing but the evidence tells you something different, what do you do?

Your answer

Maria Voutsinas

Decision making should not be based on loudness of residents but on evidence. I would try to get a better understanding of where the loud residents are coming from as sometimes it is a lack of understanding of the evidence and their opposition or advocacy could be defused.

Denise Walcott

I would follow the evidence, while listening carefully to residents and checking whether their experiences reveal something the data missed. The loudest voices should not outweigh everyone else. I would explain my decision, acknowledge concerns and show how it serves safety, fairness and the wider community.
