Small business & main streets

What is the one thing City Hall should do for Danforth, Gerrard and Queen businesses in your first two years?

Longer version: P05 · What would you do during your first two years to protect and strengthen businesses on the Danforth, Gerrard, Queen, Pape and other commercial streets? What would it cost?

Your answer

Maria Voutsinas

City Hall should do more than one thing for businesses across the Ward, but the first thing would be supports for businesses facing barriers that are outside their control, like street or transit construction. Businesses have been heavily hit both by Ontario Line construction and streetcar track repairs.

With larger chains moving in, independent shops deserve a fair chance. I would propose a lease-support pilot with landlords to help small businesses secure affordable, stable storefront leases. For businesses affected by construction, I would pursue financial assistance, clear customer signage and maintained delivery access.
