Community safety, homelessness & mental health

What should the City do first about homelessness and public disorder in the ward?

Longer version: P07 · What should the City do about homelessness, addiction, mental-health crises and public disorder, and where do policing and enforcement fit into your approach?

Your answer

Maria Voutsinas

There isn't a great deal of public disorder in the ward. Crime has dropped across the city. However, too many people are unhoused and we need to find them both emergency housing and more supportive long term housing which can also provide them with mental health and addiction supports.

Denise Walcott

I would prioritize 24-hour outreach and crisis response, connecting people directly to safe shelter and wraparound services, including mental-health care, addiction treatment and housing support. Teams should follow through so people receive ongoing help.
